Four poems

by Jonathan Delehanty

At the Touch of Your Aerial Kiss

At the touch of your aerial kiss
my breathing billowy—
how can I write near you?

Lip magnet.
God gasp.
Too good to be true.
How true true true

your foot dangle tempts me.
Oh, out of the mouths of the prophets
your beauty sung by the countless angels.

Grab your bag, baby darling, we’re going.
I wanna go (with you).
We’re going to a star.
Deep in the tripping mind that is the Self,
where the Self is you,    you and nothing else

yes, Ipsissimus now
how I have I awaited you
in acorns and acacia.

Today, as men throttle the throat
and stomp the boot,
to put down the pen and attempt to make you
timeless—

more bornless than death,
more here than this one corporeal form.

Like DMT tingles and fizz—
you disrupt me. I can feel it in my every electron,
like we were lovers through myriad lives,
like home, like starshine, like a laughed smile,

like an eye and a rib in reflection.

Jordzy

I am afraid young as we are
Tomorrow circles the sky
Like a turkey vulture.
The walls seem to heave
Like a window blind
Closing all about your kiss.

For fragments we tarry
Into the ever now,
Lean like a rose in the snow,
And the hushed winds
Rustle into the house
Cold blowing.

To peel off our clothes,
And fly heavenward
Before the carrion is
Peeled in the talons…
Wanting you now,
Sleepless.

Fight

The worm has burrowed deep within the brain.
Annihilated, in this lapse of us,
My poem a grasping like the voice of a ghost
To call out from the other side,
In this distance that is time
The days grow like spindly hair
Harrowing.

The tugging flight or fight.
Fight little angel.
Stay.
Stay pupa in the chrysalis cocoon.
Emerge the terrible moth
With the iridescent wings.
Fly.

Eyegaze

she’s all electromagnetic effervescence,
& I’m buzzing right into the flytrap teeth.

out of iridescent sea-foam, Aphrodite,
laying me supine, all acquiescence—yes,

she’s garbed a lambent panoply of prism;
her aura is an aureole.

that amalgam of minutiae leaves me prattling;
out of the bleeding throat let this efflux

point to her as apotheotic quintessence,
leaving me bawdy & lascivious thinking of

strawberry jam, apple butter, dulce de leche,
marmelade, parfait, mousse, crème brûlée, flan,

macarons, tiramisu, & fruit: mangoes, pears,
peaches, plums, raspberries, pineapple, & cherries.
