The Echidna Literary Magazine welcomes good, fine, experimental, speculative, strange, ordinary, humorous, unsettling, horror, and erotic fiction and poetry.

If you are a fan of, say, Gabrielle Wittkop, Mark Haber, Michail Bulgakov, Charlotte Roche, Margo Lanagan, e.e cummings or P.G Wodehouse the Echidna considers you a kindred spirit.

If you have written something you think might fit and believe in, send it.

If the Echidna rejects your offering don’t take it to heart more than necessary; this is, after all, a gamble, a subjective and arbitrary business, and the Echidna has very particular tastes.

Short fiction pieces should be a maximum of 5500 words. Poems can be up to five poems per submission, no word limit.

All submissions should be attached as a Word (or similar) document in an email and sent to echidnalitmag@gmail.com

If the Echidna approves, we ask for first serial rights, nothing less, nothing more.

Addendum: what do we count as prior publication? Here we are thinking books, journals (print & online) and websites. We understand though the world of the poet and writer is a harsh one & the wish for visibility real. Therefore, to our mind, previous sharing (of poem or short fiction piece) on social media is all right, if it is taken down once we wish to publish it. After publication, all rights revert to the author. We also appreciate if the Echidna is mentioned if the piece is ever published again elsewhere!
